Friday 20th September sees the excellent Big Wolf Band hitting the Joe Joe Jims stage for another evening of powerful blues rock.

Formed in Birmingham in 2014, blues rock outfit Big Wolf Band fronted by acclaimed guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jonathan Earp and co-founder Mick Jeynes the bass player, continue to go from strength to strength and with two number 1 Amazon Chart bestselling albums in A Rebel’s Story released in 2017 and Be Free (featuring vocals from Zoe Green) released in 2019, and a number 2 Amazon Chart single in Get Out released in 2022, they have caught the attention of the music industry. The albums and single also achieved IBBA top 5 and Top 20 iTunes status!

Formed in 2007, the Small Fakers are the UK’s only tribute to mod legends the sensational Small Faces, a band that transcended musical genres from blues to rock and prog, who have influenced generations of musicians.

The band will provide hits galore at every show including All Or Nothing, Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday and many more mixed in with B-sides and fan favourites from the Small Faces’ back catalogue: kicking off with the early singles, a Small Fakers show will take you through the best tracks from each LP as they were released, finishing off with the highlights from Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake.

Each member has worked with many artists on the scene and create a traditional rhythm and blues sound.

On Friday 4th October we are excited to welcome Spanish guitarist/singer-songwriter Susan Santos to JJJ for what will be a great night of powerful guitar-driven blues and blues rock.

Susan is a passionate, self-taught guitarist from Spain. A left-handed guitarist, she writes her own songs that reflect her unique blend of rhythm and textures which celebrates her abilities as a creative force, and as a truly unique artist in her own right. With her outstanding voice and appealing guitar style, along with her strong stage presence, she has proven to be a refreshing experience in the contemporary rock blues scene.

The gifted Spanish guitarist and singer songwriter has spent years performing in famous and established venues, and numerous festivals throughout Europe, Mexico, and America, has shared the stage with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and won “Best Musician Performance” at the 2018 European Blues Awards. She also “Best Female Album” at then 2019 LA Critics’ Awards. Santos has recorded five albums including “Take Me Home” (2010), “Shuffle Woman” (2012), “Electric Love” (2014), “Skin & Bones” (2016), “No U Turn” (2018), and “The L.A. Sessions” EP (2020) & 5 April 2024, “Sonora”, Sixth studio album.

Melvin has had a varied musical career from securing his first record deal at 16 to forming Joe Joe Jims favourites Vincent Flatts Final Drive and working with Budgie, Man, Tony McPhee, Canned Heat and the Ace Kefford, among many others.

The power trio – also featuring Mickey Barker on drums and James Hoskins on bass – plays original material along with a smattering of classic rock (Highway to Hell and Freebird have been known to put in an appearance, among others) and blues covers with their own twist – or in their words, “blues/rock played with more psychedelic experience and imagination than most“ – and we have enjoyed many great gigs from them over the years at JJJ.

On Saturday 19th October we welcome Man of the World: The Music of Peter Green to Joe Joe Jims.

The group celebrates the life and music of Peter Green, founder of the original Fleetwood Mac, who was not only one of the guitar-playing greats of 1960s blues-rock, but also a gifted songwriter.

The band is lead by guitarist Remi Harris who will be joined by vocalist Dave Small, bassist Tom Moore and Shane Dixon on drums to perform music from throughout Peter Green’s career including such classics as Man Of The World, Black Magic Woman, Need Your Love So Bad, Albatross and The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown).

A recent gig review by Lichfield Live stated that “this was a band that brought vivid life to the songs and instrumentals written and performed by Peter Green… The songs were treated with proper respect, but each of the musicians played things with taste and accuracy” … sounds like a perfect evening to us!

Known for her wide vocal range, unconventional lyrics, red hair, red light-sensitivity glasses and an unrivalled stage presence, Alice Armstrong’s songs have so far reached the top 20 in the most played albums of the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association and has been nominated for four different categories in the UK Blues awards over the last few years, winning Contemporary Artist of the year at the 2024 Awards.

Alice has strutted many stages of the UK’s biggest rhythm & blues festivals, completed more European tours and featured in the UK Blues Awards and finds great joy in collaboration and has co-written songs and albums with Matt Long (Catfish), the Stevie Watts Organ Trio and the Cinelli Brothers, reaching the IBBA top 20 list for 2020 and earning multiple nominations at the UK Blues Awards three years running.

Alice credits Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Donnie Hathaway, Amy Winehouse, Peggy Lee and Dinah Washington to be just some of her musical influences, peppering her performances with her trademark sense of humour garnered from the likes of the Goon Show, French & Saunders and Monty Python.

The Milk Men is a band made up from the cream of British R’n’B talent and pedigree, bringing together members of the legendary Pirates, and British Blues Award-nominated the Mustangs, The Milk Men have been tearing up venues and festivals all over the UK with their dynamic, white hot versions of classic blues tunes, alongside unforgettable foot-stomping originals.

With former Pirate Mike Roberts on drums, Lloyd Green (son of r’n’b legend Mick Green) on bass guitar, husky blues singer Jamie Smy on vocals, the band is rounded off on guitar by Adam Norsworthy, singer and guitarist in the Mustangs.

Lightning Threads – Tom Jane (Vocals/Guitar), Sam Burgam (Vocals/Bass) and Hugh Butler (Drum/Keys) – are a Blues-Rock power trio hailing from Sheffield, influenced by the great rock musicians of another time. Often compared to The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr. Cream & The Doors, creating a sound full of face-melting guitars, groove-ridden basslines with a fresh and uniquely energetic electric blues.

Quill (ft Bev Bevan) - Rock, Folk and Americana

On the afternoon of Sunday 3rd November we are excited to welcome back the legendary Quill to Joe Joe Jims!

It’s been quite a journey and their show will feature favourite songs they have played from 1973 to the present day. It will be a fantastic trip down memory lane for all the longstanding wonderful fans Quill have built up over the years – and for anyone who enjoys classic songs played and performed by great musicians.

So, get ready for a fabulous night of music featuring the legendary Bev Bevan. In 2017 Bev was inducted into The Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, having notched up 50 million + album sales with a music career that spans 60 years, performing with The Move, E.L.O and Black Sabbath. During the show Quill will pay homage to Bev’s illustrious career, giving the Quill sound to memorable tunes, Blackberry Way, Flowers in The Rain, Telephone Line and Don’t Bring Me Down to name a few.

It’s not easy to sum up Quill in a few words, but when you draw on deep diverse musical sources, and when long lifetimes of experience inform your stage craft and presentation, wonderfully interesting things can and do happen. If your not already a fan of Quill, you will be after seeing what will be another superb show from the band.
