Maggie Bell & Dave Kelly - An Evening with ...

We are very excited to have secured the services of two stalwarts of the British R&B scene – two great voices, two great reputations – for a wonderful evening of acoustic blues, soul and good times, and no doubt a little humour.

Maggie BellScotland’s Queen of Soul, founder member of Stone the Crows, later had an incredibly successful solo career on both sides of the Atlantic, now once again back on the music scene after a 20 year lay off. She was a resounding hit at the Led Zeppelin reunion concert in 2008.

Dave Kelly London’s slide guitar king, having learned his trade in the backing bands of, and recording with, Son House, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells to name but five blues legends, a founder member of The Blues Band, still wowing audiences after nearly 30 years.

This is no slick show wheeled out with any predictability. Indeed when Maggie and Dave take to the stage ‘anything can happen’ (and often does)!

The Delray Rockets – High Octane Rockabilly
Sep 22 @ 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm
The Delray Rockets - High Octane Rockabilly

The Delray Rockets are a three-piece Rockabilly band that deliver one hell of a live punch with their energetic, fast-paced show – “putting the ‘Rock’ into Rockabilly” – and we are delighted to welcome them back to Joe Joe Jims on Sunday 22nd September.

As the band themselves point out, “don’t be fooled by the onstage setup of a double bass, Gretsch guitar and stripped down drum kit, looks can be deceiving. Once the amps are flicked on and the first beat is struck, hold onto your hats cos’ you’re in for a hell of a ride.”

Whatever style of music floats your boat, we can guarantee you’ll have a job sitting still to the Delray Rockets and your foot will be tapping in no time … maybe even experiencing the undeniable urge to dance!

The band’s name is inspired by two of the most infamous live venues in the city’s history, the Old Railway Curzon Street and the Roadhouse Lifford Lane where the band members regularly played through 80’s and 90’s and they play a range of classic blues-rock covers and a few rocking originals and describe themselves as a “no nonsense Brummie rock & roll band“. Their sound combines elements of folk and hard rock with the blues rock of bands like Gov’t Mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin.  An extremely hard working band, they have built up a strong underground following throughout Ireland, the US, and Europe with multiple well received tours and one off gigs, including a slot at Glastonbury.

The Marwills – Canadian Blues Rockers

We are fortunate to have secured the services of Toronto-based blues rock band The Marwills on Saturday 12th October for a date on their short tour of the UK in support of their latest album A Mother’s Worry.

Major players in the US and Canadian rock market and frequent festival headliners, The Marwills are planning to take-on Europe and the UK in 2019 so this gig should be a great opportunity to catch them in an intimate environment! The band “make music with serious guts and they sweat while they do it. Their sound conjures smoky blues bars, shady drinking establishments, and the golden age of rock and roll”.

We’re sure the band are destined for big things this side of the pond and are hoping for a great turnout to welcome them to both Joe Joe Jims and the UK!

On Friday 18th October we are pleased to present blues rock band Voodoo Blue for their first visit to Joe Joe Jims.
