Taxi for Jesus - Blues / Blues Rock

On Friday 19th April we welcome back ‘supergroup’ Taxi For Jesus – who feature four past members of The Trevor Burton Band: Maz Mitrenko (Lead Guitar and Vocals), Stuart Ford (Lead Guitar), Pez Connor (Bass), Bill Jefferson (drums) – to Joe Joe Jims.

Maz has enjoyed over 50 years in the music business as a guitar player, singer and songwriter and there have been almost countless bands and projects he has been involved with over the years, the most recognised being his tenures with Hoi Polloi, The Handsome Beasts and the Trevor Burton band.

Although he has been running his own successful band for over a decade, he was pleased to be asked to participate in this new project, not least because it features some of his former bandmates with The Trevor Burton Band and although The Maz Mitrenko band will continue to perform, Maz is enjoying trying something a little different with “Taxi for Jesus”!

So, get down to Joe Joe Jims for what will be an energetic, highly charged performance from a great group of musicians.

The Connor Selby Band – Blues
May 3 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
The Connor Selby Band - Blues

On Friday 3rd May we welcome blues guitarist-vocalist Connor Selby and his band to JJJ.

Connor Selby is a rising British star in the traditions of Eric Clapton and Peter Green, who has already performed with his band at Wembley Stadium, at the age of 22, where he opened for The Who in July 2019 and has since gone on to play Hyde Park, London, with Pearl Jam, Stereophonics and Johnny Marr in the summer of 2022. Connor has also had a productive 2023 touring the UK as the opening act for Blues and Rock Luminaries Robert Cray and Beth Hart and also embarked on a headline tour in October of 2023.

Winner of The Young Artist of the Year Award in the 2020 and 2021 UK Blues Awards, the young bandleader-guitarist-vocalist draws on influences as diverse as B.B. King, Ray Charles, Free and Nick Drake, creating a soulful blend of hard-hitting blues and emotional, introspective song writing, which, at times, evokes a modern take on the best of the British blues boom of the 1960s.

Don’t miss this chance to catch one of the rapidly rising stars of the contemporary blues scene with his band in an intimate setting.

Love the Beatles – A Tribute to the Fab Four!
May 5 @ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Love the Beatles - A Tribute to the Fab Four!

On the afternoon of Sunday 5th May we are excited to welcome back Love the Beatles to Joe Joe Jims to recreate the music of the Fab Four!

The band consist of four performers that have travelled the world in various Beatles musicals and tribute shows and have now come together (pun intended!) with Love the Beatles to put on a spectacular live show playing the hit-strewn back catalogue of Liverpool’s finest:

Reuven Gershon – John Lennon:

As a founder member of Love The Beatles Reuven has been studying and playing Beatles music since he first picked up the guitar aged 10 years old and he started playing professionally at age 15 in his home town of Birmingham.

Back in the UK he played with many Beatles outfits including The Upbeat Beatles, The Magic of the Beatles, The Cavern Club Beatles and The Bootleg Beatles and he has most recently returned from performing on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas – the world’s twelfth largest cruise ship – with The Beatles Celebration and is very excited to now be heading up his own Beatles project.

Dougie Orr – Paul McCartney:

Dougie inherited his brother’s acoustic guitar at 7, taught himself to play and set off playing clubland from the age of 16, including joining the band Night Shift for a corporate gig in Moscow, and first performed as Macca came when he stood in for The Getback Band in Mons, Belgium which lead to a permanent position with the band.

Dougie has certainly followed in Paul’s footsteps (barefoot, presumably?) wit his favourite venue’s played so far being the Cavern club Liverpool and also recently playing the legendary Kaiserkeller in Hamburg!

David Green – George Harrison:

David, who has a degree in Music Technology from Portsmouth University and a Masters in music composition from Leeds College of Music, has been playing Beatles music professionally for 15 years, and has played with Beatlemania, the magic of of the Beatles, The Magic of The Beatles, The Upbeat Beatles and The Bootleg Beatles.

His favourite Beatles songs are And Your Bird Can Sing, She Said She Said and I’m Only Sleeping – his favourite Beatles Album is, surprisingly, Revolver and his favourite venue to perform in, apart from The Cavern, is the Liverpool empire.

Andy Cunningham – Ringo Starr:

Andy started playing music at age 10 in his Dad’s band and then studied Music Practice at Bury College until 2008 and has played Beatles music since 2017, playing with the likes of The Epic Beatles and BeatleManiaUK.

His favourite Beatles song is Here There and Everywhere and favourite Beatles album is Rubber Soul .

Following their two sell-out shows with us last year, this band are definitely one of the most requested for a return gig at JJJ and so we strongly recommend booking your tickets early as you don’t want to miss out on what will be another great night of live music when they come to town and recreate the brilliance of the Beatles live experience along with presenting classic track from their non-touring later years.

Michael Morrow & The Culprits - Hard Rock Countryfied Blues

On Friday 24th May we welcome back Colorado’s Michael Morrow & The Culprits to JJJ to deliver another evening of ‘Hard Rock Countryfied Blues’.

The American Rock Band, hailing from Colorado, deliver the goods when it comes to that bluesy hard rock with a touch of twang undoubtedly coming from that Big Red Gretsch guitar Michael is known for playing over the years. That tone matched with his voice is distinctive. Influenced from bands like The Beatles, Aerosmith, KISS you can hear that melody and strut matter.

They perform regionally from their home state of Colorado to Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah and are once more dipping their toes into the UK following a successful tour in 2023, upholding their mantra of “Write, Record, Perform“.

The boys put on a great show last time they paid us a visit and we’d definitely recommend you don’t miss them this time around.
