The band deliver a crowd-pleasing mix of classic covers from some of their favourite bands and artists – The Stones, ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dr Feelgood etc – with original songs “that draw upon their love of R&B Boogie, Southern Soul and full on Rock & Roll“.

With three albums under his belt, and stints with Paul Jones and The Blues Band, and more recently with Tony Joe White, blues guitarist Jack Blackman’s quickly establishing himself as strong musician, songwriter and performer and we are very pleased to have secured his services with his band for Saturday 27th April.
A rapidly rising star of the blues guitar, singer-songwriter Jack Blackman and his band provide original contemporary blues numbers flavoured with folk and country (elements of Dylan and Tom Petty in the mix too) for a highly original fusion of styles underpinned by his accomplished guitar playing and his smooth vocals – which one reviewer described as “reminiscent of Squeeze’s Glenn Tilbrook” – and songwriting hooks.
With the current trajectory of his career, this could be one of the last chances to see Jack play in a more intimate setting (form more details, see www.jackblackman.com).

Wednesday 8th May sees the long-awaited return to Joe Joe Jims of legendary singer-songwriter Dave Onions for what will be a great night of acoustic music.
Dave's currently working as a solo acoustic player and performs live with both guitars and mandolins playing original music written by himself and his wife plus "a little frivolity/humour and a number of instrumentals" that also showcase his distinctive, percussive guitar style.
So, come along and enjoy an evening of Dave's rootsy blend of folky blues (or bluesy folk ... whichever you prefer!).

Zoe has been incredibly busy working with the Big Wolf Band as well as promoting the Zoe Green Band album that was released at the tail end of last year and we're very pleased that she's managed to find a date for us ... and we know we're going to be in for an explosive set of originals, traditional blues and covers!

The Delray Rockets are a three-piece Rockabilly band that deliver one hell of a live punch with their energetic, fast-paced show - "putting the 'Rock' into Rockabilly" - and we are delighted to welcome them to Joe Joe Jims on Saturday 11th May.
The band played a private party at Joe Joe Jims last year and we've been looking forward to bringing them back for a gig since then as we thought they were great ... and you will too! As the band themselves point out, "don't be fooled by the onstage setup of a double bass, Gretsch guitar and stripped down drum kit, looks can be deceiving. Once the amps are flicked on and the first beat is struck, hold onto your hats cos' you're in for a hell of a ride."

On the afternoon of Sunday 12th May we present The Peas: an acoustic duo that present ‘guilty pleasures‘ of the 80s & 90s reworked in their own quirky inimitable style.
Kelly and Kelvin describe themselves as “a duo, no rules, the wrong chords but the right melody …… and Kazoo’s” … intrigued? You should be, they put on a great show and their interpretations of song we all know and love – or at least know – add a whole new dimension to the tracks!
In their own words, “from Rick Astley to The Spice Girls we have a set list that could make some people shudder but with a change of chords and a bluegrassy rock n rolling acoustic disco beat, the songs feel like new“. Steve Ajao makes a welcome return to Joe Joe Jims on Sunday 19th May but this time bringing his jazz Quartet for an afternoon of be-bop tinged classics with Steve swapping his Stratocaster for alto and tenor saxophones
Backed by drums, double bass and piano, the Steve Ajao Quartet are all highly experienced musicians who will be presenting two sets of bebop jazz. Although we don’t know the set Steve will choose for the gig, the Quartet have previously included Dizzy Gillespie’s bebop number ‘A Night in Tunisia’ to the ballad ‘The Things we did last summer’ and the bluesy inflections of Charlie Parker’s ‘Chi-Chi’ along with Dexter Gordon’s ‘Cheesecake’ … just to give you a flavour (no pun intended) of what to expect.
So, kick back and relax and enjoy Bebop at it’s best!

Friday 7th June sees the welcome return of The Electric Blues Rebellion, featuring legendary local blues singer Paul Bridgewater (Slowburner), playing a powerful mix of original blues rock numbers taken from Paul’s solo albums ‘Seven Songs’ and ‘The Other Side Of The Sun‘ plus the 2016 collaborative ‘Setting Suns’ album.
Paul, best known as front man for Slowburner, is renowned as one of the UK’s finest vocalists, so much so in fact that another local singer who did alright for himself, called Robert Plant, commented that “Paul’s a great singer who continues the tradition of great British blues & soul singers” … great praise indeed!

On Friday 14th June we welcome the Ziggie Paul Band to Joe Joe Jims for what should be an excellent night of music from the boys.
The band describe their style as “a Midlands based three piece juggernaut of Heavy Blues and Classic Rock” and with influences including Joe Satriani, Mars Volta, Rage Against the Machine, Joe Bonamassa, Miles Davis, Return to Forever and King crimson we’re sure we’ll be in for a varied and powerful couple of sets … presumably a hint of ‘fusion/prog’ in the mix too?
Not that the band do requests, but we did ask Ziggie to include Killing Floor by Hendrix in the set which is a killer live track by the band … definitely a gig not to miss!

Ceri Justice & the Jury make their Joe Joe Jims debut on Saturday 15th June for what promises to be a great evening of powerful, bluesy vocals backed by a very experienced band (featuring Rick Sandford on guitar no less – more ‘mature‘ music lovers may remember Rick from a later incarnation of the Starfighters, among others)!
Ceri herself is a local singer songwriter, whose set list features covers from the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow and various covers from band from the seventies as well as self-penned numbers and has recently completed recording her debut album ‘Justified’.

You can expect high-flying bluegrass with tumbling banjo, mandolin and harmonica breaks, all mixed with a smattering of beautiful heartfelt tunes, accompanied by harmonies. All the musicians are versatile, composing their own songs and using pulsating rhythms on double bass, ukulele and guitar to drive this catchy fun-fuelled band.

On the afternoon of Sunday 14th July we are pleased to announce the first visit to Joe Joe Jims for Dudley’s [Primer].
The female fronted rock group from the West Midlands formed in 2007 and has seen several member and sound changes before settling on their distinctive, inimitable style; a mix of Celtic inspired vocals mingle with a calling violin, intense drums and an resonating bass to drive an original, unique sound with a difference that is not to be missed.
Currently working in the studio on new material, following a tweak to their sound and line-up, the band are looking forward to hitting the road again and we are looking forward to welcoming them to Joe Joe Jims.

The band features former Birmingham Poet Laureate Spoz on guitar and vocals, Toppo on drums and vocals, Ratty on guitar and Couchy on bass and vocals. Spoz describes the live Vaseline experience as “chock full of 70s punk rock nostalgia, jumping about and strange hair cuts“!

The Cheltenham based garage rock ‘n’ roll band have been gigging and recording heavily over the past few years and will be releasing their debut album this year wit the gig at Joe Joe Jims forming part of their promotional tour so expect some great new numbers as well as classics from the band’s back catalogue (checkout their excellent Brand New Day EP) and the video for Go Go Boy below for a taste of what the band have to offer.

We are fortunate to have secured the services of Toronto-based blues rock band The Marwills on Saturday 12th October for a date on their short tour of the UK in support of their latest album A Mother’s Worry.
Major players in the US and Canadian rock market and frequent festival headliners, The Marwills are planning to take-on Europe and the UK in 2019 so this gig should be a great opportunity to catch them in an intimate environment! The band “make music with serious guts and they sweat while they do it. Their sound conjures smoky blues bars, shady drinking establishments, and the golden age of rock and roll”.
We’re sure the band are destined for big things this side of the pond and are hoping for a great turnout to welcome them to both Joe Joe Jims and the UK!
